What is your favorite !band album?:
Say You Will is my favorite album, because time has a way of allowing people to grow and heal. The songs on this album are so diverse, but they all have one thing in common, they are multi-layered. The album as a whole contains a tribute to 9-11 and Sheryl Crow, philosophical and literature references, and the continued pain from lost loves, so to me, this album has everything.
My name is Chanel, and at 22 years old I am an aspiring author, poet, and musician. I am currently in the process of publishing my first book, which is my autobiography, and is about how I survived and overcame 18 years of child abuse.
I was raised and abused by my mother from the age of three to eighteen, who suffered from a wide variety of mental illnesses, and my mistreatment included beatings, starvation, manipulation, slave-like labor, verbal torture, and the responsibility of stopping, cleaning, and reviving Mother the hundreds of times she attempted suicide. From three to eleven my mother and I survived merely on my faith in God and inability to give up. During that time I suffered the pain from being tossed at walls by my hair and head, bruised and/or broken ribs, ruptured disks in my back and neck, several broken fingers and toes, extreme malnutrition, and mental affects of having to see your mother mutilate her wrists and neck while blaming only me, but after my 11th birthday my life changed drastically.
I was privileged enough to hear the words and divine voice of Ms. Stevie Nicks as her inspirational music ruptured the sound barriers of heaven. She had become the first of eight guardian angels that would give me the courage and the strength to fight for my life and my freedom. The remaining seven angels include teachers, counselor, family members, friends, and tennis star Jennifer Capriati. Each person held a key to my survival, and I owe my life to each of them.
Furthermore, with the strength from my angels I pressed forward as my abuse continued and sickness took over my life, as I faced over nine surgical procedures in four years. However, today I sit as young woman who has not only overcome her past, but has also forgiven her abuser.
I regret nothing and would change nothing in my life. In fact, I would relive all the pain over again if my story were to save at least one life or finally break the silence of abuse.
I hope that my story will honor my gurdain angels, raise awareness for child abuse, give courage and hope to those who are being abused or have been abused in the past, and show that through patience and faith, you too, can one day be set free.
My book is not due to be out until the end of the yard, but If you would like view a summary and a free preview of my autobiography and also my book of poems visit www.authorhouse.com and type in my name.
However, in the meantime, I have a MySpace page(http://www.myspace.com/chanelmcheramie) dedicated to my “Breaking the Silence of Child Abuse” cause, and I hope that each of you that are inspired by my story keep in contact with me and help me get the word out on Child Abuse.
During and interview on Extra Stevie shows her great sense of humor with a timeless scooter comment.
As always I can find at least one Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac song to fit the odd situations that I always seem to fall into, but this time I hit the jackpot and have 3 songs.
“Rooms on Fire” By Stevie Nicks and Rick Nowels
“Well maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire”
“Long nets of white cloud my memory…”
“Fire Burning” By Stevie Nicks, Mike Campbell, and Rupert Hine
“Burning...A huge fire was burning
And her eyes grew strangely bright
She turned around in her room...
What could she take and still survive the fire?”
“Angel” and “Sweet Girl” By Stevie Nicks
"Crying in the morning...trying to be strong..."
These very words writen by Ms. Stevie Nicks really explain my last week, and I had ro continously sing, "Enchanted...well...I hope you make it," to myself in order to stay calm.
Who knew that a song written nearly 12 years before I was born could not only describe my life, but help me cope?
After surviving 15 years of child abuse and completing a book to help others, I was once again thrown into the past as my mother's protector.
On Saturday, my mother decided to end her life by ingesting over 128 different medications. She fell in seizers and hit her head and eventually fell into a coma. As the ambulance carried my mother’s unconscious body to the hospital, I had to turn to my counselor for strength: MUSIC.
Have you ever taken the time to look deeper into the many layers of a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks solo song?
Well, I have, because my eyes, my ears, and my heart know no other way of looking at the world. Thankfully, this philosophy seems to be one shared by Ms. Nicks, because her songs are always dripping with such passionate references to the often overlooked, yet absolutely astounding parts of this journey that we refer to as life.
