Looking A Little Deeper

Have you ever taken the time to look deeper into the many layers of a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks solo song?
Well, I have, because my eyes, my ears, and my heart know no other way of looking at the world. Thankfully, this philosophy seems to be one shared by Ms. Nicks, because her songs are always dripping with such passionate references to the often overlooked, yet absolutely astounding parts of this journey that we refer to as life.
Life is more than the sun is rising and the sun setting. Life is the microscopic mist in the air that we breathe, the lingering scent of a passed loved one, and the tiny lights that we perceive to be in existence as we gaze at the night sky. However, life is also the fear that invades as pain rummages through the garden of innocence. Though no hope may seem to flourish through the darkness there is always someone to listen and to heal the wounds and her name is MUSIC.
Tonight my counselor is the song “Jane” from Stevie Nicks’s Street Angel album. The song talks of a young woman’s difficulties, her fighting spirit, and the angels that surround her.
I can identify with this song in a very personal basis as I look back on the fifteen years that I lived through child abuse at the hands of my mother. My life like Jane’s was not easy and at times the darkness almost consumed my soul, but thanks to my angel Ms. Nicks, I never gave up.
Like Jane I am humble about the things I have done in my life, and I can only hope at least in the eyes of one person, I have finally done enough.
