A Fight for My Life
"Crying in the morning...trying to be strong..."
These very words writen by Ms. Stevie Nicks really explain my last week, and I had ro continously sing, "Enchanted...well...I hope you make it," to myself in order to stay calm.
Saturday June 20th seemed like a normal day, but in truth is was as far from normal as it could get. I awoke with a terrible headache and a sore throat. However, I was so excited, because at 8 P.M. I would be sitting at a Fleetwood Mac concert in New Orleans. The concert itself was unbelieveable, (I will post review at a later time.) but the second it finished I my headache soon reminded me that is was roaing and ready.
I had to wait on a sidewalk outside for a hour and a half before my parents picked me up, because they got lost. Needless to say, midnight in New Orleans, on a sidewalk, and alone, I was scared! After I finally got in the car I told my parents how bad I felt, and they simply blamed the headache on the concert even though it had been there before hand.
So... after a roast bef sandwich, a doughnut, and four tylenols, I went to bed.
When I woke up on Sunday, my headache was still there, but it was 100 times worse. I was also very hoarse, unable to move or bend my neck, pale, and feverish. After a while of seeing how much pain I was in my mom took me to the ER.
We waited for 2 hours, and since all I had was a headache, I was last on the ER list. However, this soon changed as I began to vomit blood profusly.
Five mintues after I vomited blood for the sixth time and became to weak to walk, I was rushed to the back in a wheelchair to be seen.
The doctor did a basic exam, asked odd questions, and ran some blood tests. It seem like a thousand days before the resukts came back, and my mom and I actually fell asleep in my room.
The results: my white blood cell count was astronomical, and I was asked to sign a wavier so that they could perfrom a spinal tap.
SPINAL TAP! AHHHHHH!
Well, I signed the paper, and my mom had to leave in order to get some sleep for a doctor's appointment at 8 A.M on Monday. (This was about 2:30 A.M. on Monday Morning...." Monday morning you look so fine..." Lindsey Buckingham.")
Anyway, she said she would pick me up if I was done before her appointment. I didn't havemuch of choice, but deep down I didn't want her to go. I felt that I wasn't strong enough to face this battle all by myself, so like I always had I turn to God and the inspirational words of Ms. Stevie Nicks.
Before the spinal tap was done, I saw another doctor, and we got along famously, hehe. Basically he examined me. Then I told him I had to vomit, but he didn't hear me. Thefore, my lovely blood and tar colored vomit ended up all over his pants and shoe, and then in the sink beside him.
SPINAL TAP TIME!!! YAY!! The guy who did my spinal tap was a complete dummy! He could not find fluid, so he had to insert the needle 4 separate times. On one time he hot my spine with the needle. Ouch !!!!!
Well, at this point I was half awake and half drugged up from all the meds they gave me, but when they finally got some fluid, he said it was so cloudy that he couldn't even read the measurements.
Next I felt a burning in my IV, and my pain was gone. However, so was my consciousness.
When I woke up my worse fears came true: I WAS AN ALIEN!!!!!!
Nah, not really, but I was pretty darn close.
I had 6 to 10 people in the room. 2 were hooking me up to a heart monitor. 2 were drawing blood from both arms. 1 was putting socks on my feet. 1 was waiting to take a chest x-ray, and several other were looking at my chart and chatting. But it wasn't the amount of people that made me feel like an alien, it was how they looked.
Everyone was in a full body suit including a hat and feet cap, and their faces were covered with masks.
So there I lay, confused, scared out of my mind, and somehow half naked.
"What the hell is going on," I yelled.
Well, the answer I got was so not what I was expecting.
Aparently I was being Quarantined, because my spinal tap showd that I had aseptic meningitis.
I had hear of meningitis and hoe severe it was, since someone from my high school died in two days from it. So I was again scared, but thankfully, I heard my mom knicking at the door.
She had to be placed in a suit before comming in, but I was sure glad to see her. She held my hand for a while and tried to give me courage, but after 2 hours she had to head home to pick up my dad from work.
At this time my doctor told her she could come visit me later, because I was in for at least a 3 day hospital stay.
Well, before I was taken to my room, I managed to vomit on my bed, myself, the floor, and a nurse, try to walk and fall flat on my face, and get a piece of glass stuck in my foot.(Yes, I got a piece of glass stuck in my foot on the floor in an ER bathroom. REALLY! What luck I have.) Being a free bleeder I lost a good deal of blood from both vomiting, lab sticks, and the glass that got stuck in my foot, so naturally I had to be shot up with all kinds of vitamins...fun, fun stuff.
Well, after all my fun I was finally brought to my room, and all I wanted to do was rest!
However, that night I didn't get much rest because my illness was trying to kill me. My temperature had shot up, my blood pressure was going dangerously low. At one point I got to 90/38. However, in my woozyness I keep singing Ms. Stevie Nicks's song "Enchanted" and asking God to please give me the strength to be able to follow her lyrics and stay STRONG!
By morning I was stable and very thanfully to be alive. The next 2 nights were a little better, but it is hard to sleep when someone is checking on you every 2 hours and taking blood twice a night.
Well, I am now out of the hospital, but not completely healed. It take almost 2 weeks to be healed, but it is safe to be around people after you have been treated for at least 24 hours on antibotics. Therefore, I am still suffering with headaches, nausea, trouble moving my neck, weakness, and now extreme back pain from my LOVELY four spinal taps.
Why did this have to happen to me?? Well, I believe that the forces of evil are scared of what I am capable of once my book is released, because I plan to fight to save as many people from pain as possible. However, like Job I never lost my faith, and I fought for my life every second.
I hope that my fight has touched you and can help you in any way shape or form, and as always I am hear to lend my shoulder, my hand, my time, and my heart.

What can I say? I have NO words...OMG!!! What else is going to be thrust your way and still, your strength and courage continue to enlighten me to levels I never knew I could achieve...again, you are in my prayers...what you have gone through over the last month is unbelieveable to say the least and could make a mini-series...thoughts for a second book, possibly. I will continue to gather strength from your experiences and realize that as bad as I think I have it, there are so many more others out there struggling through things I could never dream of. Please, please take good care of yourself and keep me posted on your progress. Its been so long since I talked to you.I am so sorry to hear about your illness.I totally understand how you feel.I am still fighting every day to get better but yet still getting worse,I am now getting admitted to the hospital about every six weeks.I too listen to Stevie for strengh and comfort.Many days I spend at the State Park.Sitting by the lake with my ipod.Some how listening to Stevie always makes me feel better.Thanks for having me listen to Angel it really did help.I hope everything gets better for you.Keep in touch.I miss ya wendym

I just read Channel's blogs and was so overwhelmed, they brought me to tears....I can't imagine she has been going through so much...Stevie's songs continue to help her through her struggles...again, I just wanted to touch base...getting busy here @ work and I have to go check on Mom and Dad at lunchtime. Mom has a doctor's appt. today @ 1pm. She has been reduced to using a walker, something I thought I'd never see her do...I am praying it is something simple like stopping this medication she thinks is causing the muscle disorder...I am praying for all of you...

I am answering you here because I am still having trouble w/yahoo. They have definately determined that my Mother did NOT have a stroke and the cause of all her ailments is the medication. However, it has caused severe muscle and tissue damage, but the neurologist says, with time and physical therapy, she should regain all of the use of her legs and arms. When she starts bitching about having to go to physical therapy, I am going to tell her she needs to be bitching to her doctor; because HE PUT HER THERE...I lay the responsibility soley on his shoulders and my CRAZY HARD HEADED PARENTS, don't seem to think he has done anything wrong...they don't want to change physicians and have literally banned me from saying one negative thing about this quack in their pressence....I am so frustrated that I can barely see straight. This Quack single handedly almost KILLED my mother and hasn't even apologized for his poor lack of judgement on the matter...Anyway, I wanted to touch base w/you before the holiday; they are letting us go early today and I will be at the hospital all weekend...I'll get to see how you feel most of the time, huh? Although, I won't be the patient, I'll be the caregiver; sometimes I think that is a harder job...just me. Have a wonderful and safe fourth of July. I ask that you continue to pray for my Mother's recovery; and oh, Pops is doing GREAT; other than the fact he can't see that he and my Mother have a Quack for a physician, he is just fine. And you can't talk to him about it or he gets so upset that I am sure his blood pressure goes through the roof; we don't need that happening with him just having heart surgery. Believe it or not, I got caught up @ work, but my supervisor caught me surfing the net, now, she's given me a "project" to do - why can't they just leave me alone??? It isn't like my work isn't getting done, for Pete's sake. Glad you had a good weekend; mine, as you know, was spent mostly in the hospital taking care of Mom. I spent the night Thursday and Friday and finally went home to sleep in my own bed Saturday night. Got up early on Sunday and cleaned; only to spend another whole day at the hospital w/the parentals. I pray she comes home soon ~ this running back and fourth to the hospital is wearing me out, girlfriend!!!

You can calm down; you did not, in any way, get me in trouble @ work; it's all good...I have to leave @ 2pm today for a doctor's appt. @ 2:30pm, so I was hauling ass trying to get all my work done this morning, or I would have answered your email sooner...I'm feeling really UN-EASY today; I had the biggest fight with my Dad last night {well, he did all the yelling, but it was directed towards me}. I went into the kitchen and caught him hovered over a gallon of Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream and said, "Hey, what are you doing??? You know you're not supposed to be eating that stuff!!" {Remember, he had his 7th, stint put in a little over a week ago?}. So, catching him in the act, he jumped; cause he knew he was busted and I calmly said, "All right, Dad, that's enough, put it away" He ignored me...just kept shoveling it in his mouth...then I said, a little more sternly, "Dad, that's enough...you're done, put up the ice cream". He told me to "shut up". When I went in and told my Mom what I caught him doing, she screamed at him to put up the damn ice cream, then she told me to go back in the kitchen and tell him if he loved us , he would stop; so I did and HE started cussing and screaming at me so loud, like I had done something wrong; that it basically tore my heart out and I went to bed crying; haven't spoken to him since; not a word this morning and when he came home early from his golf game at lunch today {something I wasn't expecting}, I stopped eating my lunch, grabbed all my stuff and just left...there was absolutely NO reason for him to talk to me like shit the way he did and until he apologizes for it, I ain't got nothing to say to him...I know he's my father, but I deserve a little respect here. Jeez, all I'm doing is trying to prolong his life; if he's so hell bent on killing himself, maybe I should just buy him a gun and tell him to put us all out of our misery...one thing is for sure; I'm done trying to tell him to eat healthy - he's on his own. I do all the cooking and for him, it's no butter; no salt, low fat, etc., and I'll continue to do that, but if insists on sneaking all this junk food that is so bad for him; he's on his own. Anyway, I gotta wrap up some stuff and get ready to leave...I just knew this hour {from 1 to 2pm} would FLY by and sure enough, it is...talk to ya later.

I know exactly how you feel.My father put me threw all that crap too.How can he do this to you.You are so kind and loving to take care of them.You work all day and come home to another job.Its so tiring I know.I tried to control how my father ate,and he would scream at me.On top of it all after having bypass surgery and a defibulator I would catch him smoking.That really pissed me off.So the battle would begin.We would both get upset and I felt the same as you.All I do for him and he has the nerve to scream and curse me out.Well anyway I was happy to read you made up.Well if you ever need to talk or vent either email me or call me I'm always hear for you!!!!!! Your words of encouragement mean more to me than you can imagine...it's funny; just one more thing we have in common; taking care of an elder who is a loved one who does nothing but gripe, complain and cuss at you...I am thankful my Dad finally saw that what he was doing was WRONG and affected me in such a way that it had devestating consequences...on my physical being, my personal outlook on life in general...maybe, even though we made up before the weekend got here; the physical and emotional stress from it all, was just so taxing on my body and my mind. I'm glad it's over, but something tells me this won't be the last time we argue about this topic; he's just too damn stubborn; but, I love him with all my heart!!!
My Mom is doing SO MUCH better and walking around the house not even having to use her walker. Her appetite has returned and she is looking and sounding like her old self...it warms my heart to see her that way. Now, if I can just get enough rest to keep up with the both of them; it'll all be good.
